In a recent development, the Kerala High Court has issued a notice to alleged members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for reportedly encroaching upon the premises of Sree Sarkara Devi Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.
The court has sought responses from the state government and the Travancore Devaswom Board on the matter. The plea was filed by two devotees and nearby residents of the temple, who expressed concern over the alleged illegal activities conducted by the RSS members.
According to the petitioners, the alleged RSS members have been conducting mass drills and weaponry training inside the temple premises without authorization from the relevant authorities. These activities have caused inconvenience and difficulties for the devotees and pilgrims, especially women and children. The petitioners further claimed that the usage of tobacco products by the RSS members within the temple premises has resulted in a decline in cleanliness, purity, and divinity, causing discomfort to the visiting devotees.
Furthermore, the petitioners highlighted that the loud slogans and disruptions caused during the mass drill and weaponry training have disturbed the peaceful and serene atmosphere of the temple. Seeking directions from the court, the petitioners urged the respondent authorities to fulfill their duty of ensuring that the temple and its premises are used solely for devotional purposes. They also emphasized the protection of the fundamental right to worship guaranteed under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
The Kerala High Court has scheduled the next hearing on June 26 to further consider the matter. The case brings attention to the alleged encroachment and misuse of temple premises, raising concerns about maintaining the sanctity and peaceful ambiance of religious sites. The court's involvement in addressing these allegations demonstrates the importance of upholding the rights of devotees and preserving the sacredness of places of worship.
