The Top Court admitted a special leave petition by child rights body Balala Hakula Sangam (BHS) on Wednesday on intermediate student deaths in Telangana.
The petition by Balala Hakula Sangam (BHS) comes nearly two months after the Hyderabad high court gave a clean chit to the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education.
In June this year, a division bench of the high court dismissed petitions filed by Balala Hakula Sangam (BHS). The high court stated that only a minuscule 0.16 per cent of failed intermediate students were declared as passed after reverification & that the intermediate board cannot be held responsible for such minor discrepancies.
“We have challenged the high court order in the Top Court. We have filed the petition against state govt & Globarena, seeking interim relief of Rs 50 lakh for each family of the deceased students,” said Achyutha Rao, honorary president of Balala Hakula Sangam (BHS).
The petition filed by the child rights body is scheduled for hearing on Aug 23. The petition was filed days after President Ram Nath Kovind sought a report on suicides committed by 27 intermediate students in Telangana. The President sought a report following Telangana Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) president K Laxman’s representation on July 1 alleging foul play by the govt in declaration of intermediate results.
