Recently, the Delhi Government, ahead of the assembly elections announced an extension of its health insurance coverage to an additional 3,330 lawyers under the Chief Minister Advocates Welfare Scheme. This decision, sanctioned by Chief Minister Atishi increases the number of lawyers receiving health insurance to approximately 31,000. The scheme, which offers ₹10 lakh personal health coverage and ₹5 lakh family insurance, aims to further the Aam Aadmi Party's efforts to benefit different sections of society, including legal professionals.

The Delhi government’s announcement follows its ongoing commitment to the welfare of lawyers, which has been a key focus of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Chief Minister Advocates Welfare Scheme was launched in 2019 with an annual allocation of ₹50 crore, providing significant support to lawyers, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The scheme offers ₹10 lakh term insurance and ₹5 lakh family insurance, including coverage for spouses and two dependent children up to the age of 25. To be eligible for the scheme, lawyers must be registered with the Bar Council of Delhi and a voter in the capital.

The government highlighted that, with the addition of these 3,330 new beneficiaries, the total number of insured lawyers in the capital will reach approximately 31,000. Chief Minister Atishi emphasized the importance of supporting the legal community, stating that the government continues to prioritize the welfare of lawyers, who play a pivotal role in upholding the Constitution and ensuring justice.
