In a development that brings healthcare facilities within closer reach of the legal fraternity and litigants, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated an Ayushman Arogya Mandir at the Tis Hazari Court Complex. Addressing the media, the Chief Minister described the establishment of the medical facility within the court premises as a turning point for public health infrastructure in the Capital, asserting it as “a very big milestone for Delhi, from where a new turning point starts in the journey of the people of Delhi.”

The inauguration marks the inclusion of legal institutional spaces within the scope of the central government’s Ayushman Bharat initiative. Positioned inside the Tis Hazari Court complex, a site frequented daily by thousands of litigants, advocates, and judicial officers, the facility aims to offer accessible healthcare services in proximity to the justice delivery mechanism.

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, on the same day, inaugurated another Ayushman Arogya Mandir at Budh Bazar Road, B Block in Chaukhandi. According to Sirsa, a total of 33 such Mandirs were launched across the city on Tuesday. The Minister confirmed that these units are equipped with “excellent infrastructure and facilities.”

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta sharply criticized the previous administration for its inaction, stating, “The previous government should have started this work four years ago but they never even entertained the thought of it.... I consider this as a big crime against the people of Delhi.” She distinguished the current initiative from the earlier Mohalla Clinics, asserting: “This is very different from the Mohalla clinics that the previous government opened, which was nothing but a temporary structure.”

She further added, “We got only eight months to do this work... We want to provide the people of Delhi with the best of health facilities. The entire team is working on a mission that not a single penny made in the interest of Delhi is wasted.”

In a related development, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood, on May 18, oversaw the distribution of Ayushman Bharat cards to senior citizens aged 70 and above in Janakpuri, West Delhi. Sood noted that “Chief Minister Rekha Gupta started the distribution of Ayushman Bharat cards,” adding, “we are ensuring that the beneficiaries get Ayushman Bharat cards so that they can avail its benefits”.  He also emphasized the need for public engagement with the scheme: “Make them aware that they should go to their elders and their children in any other state where they can benefit from these hospitals as well.”
