The President of India has assented to the appointment of Justice S. Vaidyanathan, Judge of Madras High Court as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.

The notification issued by the Law Ministry notifies that “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice S. Vaidyanathan, Judge of the Madras High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

About Justice S. Vaidyanathan

Justice S. Vaidyanathan got enrolled as an Advocate on 27th August 1986. He practiced in the High Court of Judicature at Madras, where his paternal grandfather Sri L.S.Vaidyanathan served as a Superintendent, Copyist Section and retired in the year 1952. His father, Sri V.Subramanian started his life as a shoe polish seller and later grew to be a committed trade unionist and the founder member of the first white-collared Employees’ Union in 1946, viz., Madras Commercial Employees Union in this city of Madras under the leadership of Sri R.Venkataraman, who later became the President of India. He served as an Editor of Labour Law Books published by Madras Book Agency. He was elevated on 25.10.2013 as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Madras and became a permanent Judge of this Court on 14.04.2015.
