On Friday, a newly appointed CBI prosecuting officer lost his life in a fatal road collision on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, prompting police action against the driver of the vehicle allegedly responsible. The incident has renewed concern over road safety on one of the region’s most accident-prone stretches.

The victim, Sheikh Adil Nabi, was travelling near the Banihal area when his car was allegedly rammed from behind by a speeding Mahindra Scorpio. A video of the collision later surfaced on social media, drawing public attention to the crash. Adil sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Sub-District Hospital in Banihal, where he received initial medical care before succumbing to his injuries. Police investigations led to the arrest of Mohammad Shafi, the Scorpio driver, as authorities examined the circumstances surrounding the high-impact collision.

While no judicial determination has yet been made, the police confirmed prompt action in the matter. Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta stated that the deceased advocate, who had recently joined the Central Bureau of Investigation as a public prosecutor, was critically injured in the accident and later died despite medical intervention. Acting on preliminary findings, the police arrested the driver of the vehicle involved and initiated further legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
