A Central Bureau of Investigation prosecutor has claimed that he was “beaten up” by a DIG-rank officer, who also tried to “strangulate” him. Calling the allegations “very serious” a special CBI Court has summoned the officer.

Special CBI judge Rakesh Kumar Sharma in an order passed on Monday said that “This is a serious allegation levelled by the public prosecutor. The DIG shall appear in person on October 19 to explain his conduct".

The prosecutor claimed that the actions meted out to him were over the delay in framing of charges against Rajender Kumar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a corruption case. He added that he was asked why the charges “have not been framed in this case so far, & that a departmental inquiry shall be initiated against him if charges are not framed” on Monday.

The CBI had charged Kumar, a 1989 batch IAS officer, along with 8 others & his front company — Endeavour Systems Private Ltd (ESPL) — for allegedly running a “systematic” information technology-related corruption scandal worth Rs 57 crore for nearly 9 years from 2007 to 2015 in which he & his accomplices received a bribe of Rs 3.3 crore.
