NGT directed Govt to contain Noise Pollution.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT)  has directed Delhi Govt. and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to ensure that the religious places situated in the East Delhi strictly adhere to the guidelines laid down on noise pollution.

NGT Bench headed by the NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar directed DPCC to take appropriate action against places of worship in case any violation was found by Authorities.

Counsel's for various religious places assured the NGT that they would abide by the NGT direction's and thus ensuring that there is no violation.

The order was passed by NGT as it disposed of the plea by NGO Akhand Bharat Morcha alleging that the illegal use of the loudspeakers at such places adversely affected  health of residents living in their vicinity.

PIL alleged that the activities of some mosques were in violation of Environment (Protection ) Act, 1986 and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

Plea further claimed that these places of worship were located in the silent zones housing schools and the hospitals and their loudspeakers surpassed laid down decibel levels.
