In a serious development, the individual accused of attacking Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her Camp Office in Civil Lines has been remanded to five days of police custody, sources from the court confirmed.
The accused, identified as 41-year-old Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat, was presented before a magistrate at his residence in Dwarka late Wednesday night. Notably, he was not produced at the Tis Hazari Court premises, officials noted.
Law enforcement has registered a case against Khimjibhai under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to commit murder). He faces additional charges for allegedly assaulting and obstructing a public servant from performing his duties.
The attack occurred around 8:15 am during the 'Jan Sunwai' session, with officials describing it as a "well-planned attempt" on the Chief Minister’s life. Gupta received immediate medical attention and underwent a medico-legal examination (MLC), according to the Chief Minister’s Office.
