JUDGMENT
The prayer in the writ petition is for a direction to
respondents to act upon Exts.P6 and P7 by sponsoring and
nominating the petitioner to participate in the tournament
(50Kg Weight Category) in Boxing Championships
representing the 1st respondent University. A statement has
been filed on behalf of the 1st respondent by the Standing
Counsel wherein it is stated that Boxing has been withdrawn
from the intercollegiate Calender from the academic year
2011-2012 due to non-participation of students in the event
and that the event is not popular in the M.G.University. It is
hence submitted that the University does not conduct any
selection process for selecting a university team. It is also
stated that the University will be able to give eligibility to the
petitioner for participating in the All India M.G.University
Tournament for representing the University but the expenses
for participation shall have to be born by the petitioner
himself. The Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the
petitioner is agreeable to the above decision.
In the above circumstances, this writ petition is closed
directing the respondents to issue necessary eligibility for the
petitioner to participate in the All India M.G.University
Tournament 2023-2024 in the event Boxing in the 50Kg
Weight Category within one week from today. It is made clear
that the expenses for participation shall be met by the
petitioner.
