About NHRC
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is mandated to generate awareness for the protection and promotion of Human Rights, vide Section 12 (h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. Accordingly, the Commission has been regularly conducting ‘Winter and Summer Internship Programmes’ since 1998 and 2000 respectively.
About NHRC SIP 2026
For the year 2026, a four-week ‘Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2026’ will commence from 1st June (Monday) to 25th June 2026 (Thursday). Applications are invited from eligible students across the country.
Eligibility
Eligibility and selection criteria will be as follows:
- Students who have completed 1st year and are pursuing 2nd or 3rd year LLB (3 years) courses;
- Students who have completed 3 years OR Semester VI of the 5 year Integrated Course of BA LLB/ BBA LLB etc. and pursuing 4th and 5th years;
- Students pursuing LLM Course;
- Students pursuing PG Diploma in Human Rights, MA in Human Rights, PG students of Political Science, Sociology, Social Work (MSW), Criminology, Public Administration, Rural Development, History, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, Mass Communication, International Relations and any of the discipline of Social Sciences would be considered with preference to students pursuing their final year;
- Only students of regular courses of UGC Recognized Universities will be eligible.
- Students must have attained a minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and in each of the first 6 Semesters of graduation course/ five year integrated course.
- The applicant should not be more than 28 years of age as on 01.04.2026.
- Attested photocopies of mark-sheets for Class-X, Class-XII and each of the first 6 Semesters of graduation course/ five year integrated course, are to be submitted, failing which the application will be liable to be rejected. All the applications should be accompanied by a Letter of Recommendation (LOR) bearing the name, signature, date & rubber stamp/ seal of the Principal/ HOD/ Dean of the Institute where the applicant is studying as per Annex – I.

Maximum intake: 100 students + 20 waitlisted (Delhi/NCR).
Selection Criteria
- A 300-500 words write-up (in online form) on the topic “Reason for joining as Intern in NHRC” will be required to be submitted by the applicants which would also be considered as a Statement of Purpose (SOP), along with the online application which will also serve as a basis of selection. Students who have research potential in the areas relating to human rights will be preferred (As indicated by them in the write-up).
- The merit will be made on the basis of marks calculated out of a total of 100 marks on account of Class XII @ 30 Marks, Graduation @ 40 Marks and the Marks scored in the Write-up of 300-500 words @ 30 Marks.

Stipend
The Interns successfully completing the internship receive stipend of Rs 12000/- and also TA (3 rd AC to & fro fare from Place of educational institution to Delhi).

- Cash prizes: ₹15,000 (1st), ₹10,000 (2nd), ₹5,000 (3rd) for group research projects.
- Book prizes for top performers in book reviews and declamation contests.
