Violators to be penalized with around ₹12,000/- Fine.

A new law that forbids any sort of full face covering, including Islamic veils such as the Niqab/Burqa, has come into force in Austria.

Starting yesterday, wearing a ski mask, a surgical mask outside hospitals & party masks in public is prohibited.

According to the govt., the law, which says that faces must be visible from the hairline to the chin, is about protecting the Austrian values.

This law, popularly known as the "Burqa Ban" is mostly seen as a directed at the dress worn by ultra conservative Muslim women.

Violations carry a possible fine of about USD 180. Muslim groups have condemned this new law.

Police has been authorized to use force if people resist showing their faces.

Only a small no. of Muslim women in Austria wear full-face veils, but they've become a target for right-wing groups & political parties.

France & Belgium also have similar laws.

However, the UK doesn't ban the niqab or burka.

The Nationalist Alternative for Germany party is calling for similar ban Law there too.
