Krishnan had lost the defamation suit in the High Court in 2015, but challanged it before Court of Appeal.

Ramesh Krishnan - a 47 year old Indian-origin Singaporean has received a huge compensation of more than 4 million Singaporean dollars, from his previous employer, after a severely critical letter of reference by them cost him the chance to join another company.

Ramesh Krishnan described as “1 of AXA’s best compensated advisers” had accused the employer of defaming him in year 2012 when providing references on his work performance.

Ramesh Krishnan lost the defamation suit in the High Court in 2015; but the Court of Appeal later ruled that AXA had breached its duty of care to him.

When R. Krishnan had applied to asked AXA for reference, it wrote back saying that he “showed a very poor 13th month persistency rate” meaning that many of his clients didn't stick with their policies & “we're very concerned as to if the clients have been provided with proper advice.”

The Court of Appeal said that this would've given the mistaken impression that R. Krishnan wasn't competent & didn't square with the evidence that he was 1 of AXA’s best financial services directors & the fact that it had earlier persuaded him not to resign.

On Monday Justice George Wei noted that when it came to damages, both parties had been “polar opposites”. Ramesh Krishnan had sought 63 million Singaporean dollar; while AXA urged he shouldn't be awarded more than 1 Singaporean dollar.

Ramesh said that “People must know that justice is served; somebody must go out there & make a point.”
