This event is designed to immerse law students in the intricacies of courtroom procedures and judicial reasoning. By staging a realistic Mock Trial Presentation, students of the department of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration at SOEL will assume various roles in a trial setting, including counsels, witnesses, and judges, offering an engaging and practical experience.
The Inter-College Judgment Writing Competition invites students from various institutions to witness this enactment and draft their own judgments based on the arguments and evidence presented. This initiative not only refines advocacy skills but also strengthens legal analysis and reasoning among participants.
The event will begin with a meticulously staged Mock Trial Presentation, where our students will simulate an actual courtroom scenario. The trial will encompass all critical elements, including opening statements, examination of witnesses, presentation of evidence, and closing arguments, adhering to procedural norms. This presentation will serve as a live case study for the Inter-College Judgment Writing Competition.
Students from different law institutions are invited to observe the entire proceedings and subsequently draft a well-reasoned judgment. The judgments will be evaluated on their legal soundness, coherence, and adherence to judicial writing standards. The competition is designed to test the ability of participants to assess facts, interpret applicable laws, and provide a well-structured decision that mirrors actual judicial reasoning.
The Mock Trial Presentation is exclusively conducted by PG students of the Criminal Law Department while the Judgment Writing Competition is open to law students from other colleges and universities (both UG and PG). All participants must register in advance to confirm their participation.
The Trial problem will be released in advance for the participants of the Judgement writing competition to frame an idea on the backdrop of the case. The Trial problem includes pre-trial documents such as the Final report, Witness statements, Post-mortem report etc. However, the witnesses will be examined and testimonies can be recorded only at the day of the competition.
The trial will have interesting elements that will test the spontaneous ability of the participants. Once the trial concludes, participants will be allotted a stipulated timeframe to draft and submit their judgments.
Judgments will be evaluated based on the following parameters:
A maximum of 2 participants are allowed from an institution. Each participant for Judgement writing competition will be required to pay a fee of Rs. 500 and register themselves through a Google form mentioned at the end of this post within 2nd April, 2025.

The best three judgments will be awarded trophies and certificates, and all participants will receive certificates of participation.
We anticipate an enriching and intellectually stimulating experience for all participants, and we look forward to a successful event!
