About NUJS

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences was established under the WBNUJS Act, 1999 (West Bengal Act IX of 1999) adopted by the West Bengal Legislature in July, 1999.

The University was notified under Clause (f) of Section 2 of the UGC Act, 1956 in August 2004 and has been granted permanent affiliation by the Bar Council of India in July 2005. On 28 October 2002, the university’s present-day permanent campus was inaugurated by the then Chief Justice of India, B. N. Kirpal.

About SITC

SITC is an academic society, which aims to further the knowledge of trade and competition laws through its annual activities. In the past years, SITC has organised several events, the most prominent one being the 3rd NUJS-CCI Moot Court Competition 2021-22, which was organised in collaboration with the Competition Commission of India.

We are currently collaborating with the Competition Commission of India, to organise a series of lectures at the university. In this series we’ve invited the chairperson of the CCI, Mr Ashok Kumar Gupta, Ms Jyotsna Yadav, Joint Director, CCI, Ms Neha Raj Kochhar, Joint Director, CCI and Ms. Sayanti Chakrabarti, Director, CCI.

About CCL

The Centre for Competition Laws at NUJS focuses on promoting awareness and quality research in the field of Competition Law. It serves as a platform for NUJS students, faculty, and researchers to engage in activities such as research projects, seminars, and conferences.

Collaborating with the Competition Commission of India, it conducts various initiatives to enhance understanding and generate research in this area. The Centre also co-organizes the CCI-NUJS Competition Law Moot Court Competition with the Society for International Trade and Competition, NUJS, and the CCI.

Eligibility

All students pursuing bachelors degree in law i.e. three year L.L.B. course or five year L.L.B. course from any law college/school/university recognised by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate in this competition.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions are to be made in MS-word format (.doc/.docx). Any submissions in .pdf format will not be considered. Any previously published article will not be considered. Any article having a similarity percentage greater than 20% will be disqualified. Copyright of the submitted article will be retained by SITC. No registration fees is required to participate in the competition.

Formatting Guidelines

Font and size: Times New Roman, size 12 (for main text). Times New Roman, size 10 (for footnotes). Size and alignment: A4 size, with 2.54 cm margin (normal margin). All text except for headings should be justified. Footnoting: A uniform citation standard has to be followed throughout the paper. Spacing: The main text should have a line spacing of 1.5 while the footnotes should have a line spacing of 1. Word limit: The maximum word limit for the article is 2500 words (excluding footnotes). Anonymity: The article should not have the author’s name or educational institution anywhere in the submitted article. Co-authorship: Co-authorship of up to 2 authors is permitted.

Prizes

The winners of the competition will be awarded the following prizes:

  • Cash prizes First prize – Rs 30,000 Second prize – Rs 20,000 Third prize – Rs 10,000
  • Internship opportunity The winning author (one) / authors (two in case of co-authorship) will be given the opportunity to intern with Fox & Mandal, Advocates and Solicitors

Important dates

  • Announcement of Competition – 13th February, 2024
  • Deadline for submission of Articles – 20th March 2024
  • Announcment of results – 30th March 2024
