General Rules and Regulation
- The first edition of ‘Conventus’ will be organized by the Pro Bono Club, School of Law, Presidency University, Bangalore on 22nd December 2022 and will be held on-campus (Presidency University, Itgalpura, Rajanakunte, Yelahanka, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560064) from 09:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
- DRESS CODE: The participants shall strictly adhere to Formal/Indian attire in the entire duration of event.
- LANGUAGE: The participants shall use only English language for official communication and oral submissions during the competition.
- No transportation shall be provided to the participants.
- Students have to compulsorily carry their College ID. Without the same, the entry shall not be permitted inside the campus.
- Participants must report to the venue of their event 10 minutes prior to the event.
- The following items are prohibited: alcohol, lighters, cigarettes, vapes, hookah, e-cigarette, weed, drugs, flammable objects, perfumes, deodorants, condoms, contraceptives, liquids, helmets, medicines,
- edibles, cosmetics, sharp objects or weapons such as pocket knives, razors and so on. Items once confiscated will not be returned.
- Anyone found under the influence of any intoxications shall be immediately removed from the campus.
- Any form of vulgar behaviour, indiscipline and malpractice will lead to disqualification and subject to strict disciplinary action.
- In case, any event has reached the maximum number of participants, it is up to the discretion of the Organizing Committee to close the registrations for the event at any given point of time.
Registration
- The registration process will be done via Google Forms. Students are advised to fill in registration form with the exact details. Non-compliance to the same shall lead to non-registration of the participant.
- Registration fees once paid is non-refundable and the same has to be attached while filling up the registration form.
- The registration will close on 21st December 2022, 11:59 PM. The eligibility for registration is open to all students pursuing Undergraduate and Post-graduate from any UGC affiliated colleges.
- There shall be no restriction on the number of registrations. Multiple entries from a single Institute/University are permitted.
- The Participants are requested to be present at the University Premises, latest by 9:30 AM.
Clarifications
Clarifications can be sought through the official email pusolpbc@gmail.com with the subject as Conventus 1.0 - Registration (for registration queries) and Conventus 1.0- Event (for event queries).
Miscellaneous Rules
- All the participants shall be bound to follow the code of conduct and rules laid down by the Pro Bono Club, Presidency University.
- Any behaviour of indiscipline with the judge, staff or the student volunteer shall be dealt with strict action.
- The Organizing Committee reserves the right to amend, modify or repeal any of the rules, if so required and as they deem appropriate. Participants shall receive adequate amount of notice of any/all such amendments or modifications to the rules.
- Non-adherence and non-compliance to any rules mentioned by the Organizing Committee, thereby resulting in its contempt, shall result in strict disciplinary action against the participant.
The Parliamentary Debate
Preparation
- Members are permitted to use printed (books, journals, newspapers, and other similar materials) or written materials during the preparation and in the debate. The use of electronic equipment is permitted during the preparation but not during the debate.
- If violation of any of the rules is believed to have been committed by a team or one of its members, the Organizing Committee shall use its discretion, upon its initiative or complaint from another team or assessor may impose a penalty or disqualify the team.
- It is the duty of the time keeper or of a panellist or the Chair (in the absence of the time keeper) to take an account of the time and to make the participants notice of the same.
- The timing of each speech starts at the moment the speaker begins to speak.
- All the rebuttals will be answered and asked during the reply speech only.
- The themes can vary from topics such as gender neutrality, reservation, etc. from the wide spectrum. Furthermore, the Organizing Committee will be allotting the topic at a later stage.
- There will be individual participation.
Format
- The Teams will be given 20-30 minutes of preparation time from the announcement of the topic.
- The Teams should arrive at their debate within 5 Minutes of the scheduled starting time.
Miscellaneous Rules
- The dress code for the debate is Western or Indian formals.
- In case of conflict, the decision of the Organizing Committee will be final and binding. The use of profanity or inciting communal hatred will lead to instant disqualification.
- Organizing Committee reserves the right to amend, modify or repeal any of the rules, if so required, as it deems necessary.
- Participants shall receive adequate notice of any/all such changes or modifications to the rules.
Prizes
- Best Motion- ₹ 2000/-
- Best Speaker for the Motion- ₹ 3000/-
- Best Speaker against the Motion- ₹ 3000/-
Street Play Competition
General
- The Team should consist of, at least, four members.
- Maximum duration of the play should be 10 minutes.
- Multiple entries from a single institution are allowed.
- The language of the performance should be in English.
- The Teams should bring their own costumes and other apparel goods with them.
- The decision of the judges will be final and binding.
- In case of any discrepancies and irregularities, the Organizing Committee will have the authority to cancel the candidature of the team.
- The Organizing Committee will not be providing any instruments for the purpose of the Street Play Competition. Any requirement for the same will have to be necessitated by the teams, themselves.
- The event will be conducted in an open space.
- The theme for the Street Play is LEGAL AWARENESS. The participating team can choose any topic in conformity with the topic.
Judging Criteria
- The successful portrayal of the theme.
- The acting part of the performance (Dialogue delivery, expressions and
- body language, coordination between the members).
