GNLU’s Certificate Course on Legal Argument and Narrative [Jan 7-11, Gandhinagar]: Register by Jan 5

GNLU is pleased to offer a Five-Day Certificate Course on “Legal Argument and Narrative”, from 7th January to 11th January 2019 at Gujarat National Law University.Narrative plays a prominent role in the persuasive presentation of facts in common law systems of litigation, but it is also a strong element in legal reasoning and judicial decisions.

This course will examine the role of narrative in the law, consider why narrative is such an effective tool of legal of legal persuasion, and explore advanced techniques of narrative.

The Course has been drafted and would be conducted by Helena Whalen-Bridge, B.A., J.D., LL.M., Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law. Recipient of the NUS Teaching Excellence Award, she was seconded to the Center for Transnational Legal Studies in London in 2015 and has developed multiple courses for NUS Law, including Legal Ethics, Comparative Advocacy and Legal Argument & Narrative. Her publications on the topic include,

The Connection between Ethics and Legal Narrative (Journal of the Association of Legal Writing Directors), Global Legal Skills (Journal of International Law in Context) and Comparative Legal Analysis (Journal of Legal Education).

She is a founding member of the Law Society of Singapore’s Project Law Help, and she worked with the UNDP Team that translated Lao laws into English.
