The National Law Institute University has been successful in instilling a sense of broad perspective along with scholastic and reflexive capabilities bearing in mind larger national and humanitarian goals in its students’ Legal education never received the attention it deserved in this country.
It is a paradox that the Constitution ushered in the ideal of rule of law and adopted the policy of development through law but little attention was paid to legal studies.
For almost half a century study of law in Indian Universities has been in doldrums. It was increasingly realised by the professionals and academicians that the system of law teaching was thoroughly inadequate, unimaginative and divorced from the major public issues of the day but attempts to change have that have been few and far between.
NLIU-Legal Aid Clinic (“NLIU-LAC” or “the Clinic”) established under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, on 11th April 2018, is a student-run initiative aimed at providing legal assistance to socially and economically backward and marginalised sections of the society who have difficulty accessing the judicial system. NLIU-LAC is supervised by the University’s Faculty-in-charge, who seeks to help the students to achieve their academic, professional and social goals.
The 3rd NLIU-LAC Paralegal Workshop and Training Programme will span over a duration of two days from 17th-18th March 2024. The first day will consist of an Essay Writing and presentation competition followed by a Round Table conference on the theme: Building Bridges: Collaborative Partnerships between Legal Aid Organizations, Law Firms, and Community Stakeholders and the second day will consist of the Client Counselling Competition.
The Round Table Conference will provide a platform for participants to engage in in-depth discussions and exchange ideas with experts, practitioners, and scholars in the field of legal aid and social justice. Through this interactive session, participants will have the opportunity to explore current issues, share insights, and collaborate on potential solutions, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the field.
Additionally, the essay writing competition aims to encourage participants to showcase their research and analytical skills while addressing relevant legal and social issues. By providing a platform for scholarly inquiry and constructive dialogue, these new components enrich the overall learning experience of the programme and contribute to the advancement of legal aid and social justice efforts in India.
The ultimate goal of the NLIU-LAC Workshop and Training Programme is to instil a sense of commitment to legal aid and social justice in the next generation of legal professionals. By engaging in this program, participants will not only enhance their own understanding of legal principles and procedures but also contribute to the greater good by helping to bridge the gap in access to justice for marginalized communities.
