We are delighted to announce the Call for Submissions for Erga Omnes, the official blog of the Centre for Peace, Justice, and International Law established in honour of the esteemed Judge Christopher Weeramantry.
Judge Weeramantry, a distinguished figure at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and an influential teacher, left an indelible mark on the realms of law seldom explored by mainstream international lawyers. Even after his passing in early 2017, his groundbreaking work including, inter-alia, his separate opinion in the Gabčíkovo-Nagymaros Project Case, continues to shape international environmental law by elevating the status of its principles to that of obligation erga omnes.
Erga Omnes invites scholarly contributions that delve into international legal issues, spanning areas such as human rights accessibility, disarmament, environmental concerns, and challenges faced by the third world. We encourage interdisciplinary submissions that carry a universalist undertone, reflecting Judge Weeramantry’s commitment to a broader understanding of justice and equity in international law.
Authors are invited to submit innovative pieces, whether intended for future development into full-fledged research papers or as regular writings driven by passion and a quest for a deeper understanding of the chosen topic. While traditional journal publications remain a respected avenue for academic discourse, Erga Omnes recognizes the power of blogs in reaching a wider audience and providing a more accessible platform for knowledge dissemination.
By contributing to Erga Omnes, you not only become an integral part of a dynamic intellectual community but also enhance your professional credentials and skills. With website traffic emanating from more than forty jurisdictions, your work is guaranteed exceptional visibility and recognition.
All previous posts can be found here. The submission guidelines are in annexed. We look forward to your insightful contributions.
Entries received shall be screened internally on five grounds- originality, depth of analysis, proximity to the aims and objectives of Weera Centre, adherence to the submission guidelines and language. Word limit requirements can be reasonably relaxed for exceptional entries. The review process, which shall be on a rolling basis, may take 4-5 days before the final decision is communicated.
If the author is engaging with an ongoing or time-sensitive matter and wishes to get his/her work published urgently, it will be acceptable subject to the request made for that effect and following basic academic standards.
The submission guidelines can be accessed through the link provided at the end of this post.
