Rajasthan Preservation of Certain Animals Act, 1950

Made by His Highness the Rajpramukh on the 18th day of April, 1950

An Act to consolidate and amend the law relating to the preservation of certain animals and birds.

Whereas it is expedient to consolidate and amend the law relating to the preservation of certain animals and birds in of [the State of Rajasthan]. It is hereby enacted as follows:-

Object - Cows, bulls, oxen, calves, peafowls or pigeons are treated with sacred sentiments in India, particularly by Hindus. Hence killing or injuring these animals and birds have been prohibited. Contravention of this Act amounts to penal offence.

Short title, extent and commencement- (1) This Act may be called the Rajasthan Preservation of Certain Animals Act, 1950.

(2) [It extends to the whole of the State of Rajasthan.]

(3) It shall come into force on the date of its publication in the [Official Gazette].

Note - Formaly this Act was not applicable to Abu, Ajmer and Sunel Areas, which have now been included with effect from 1-9-1957, the date from which the Rajasthan Act No. 27 of 1957 came into force.

Killing or injuring a pea-fowl [or pigeon]- Whoever intentionally kills or injuries a pea-fowl (or pigeon) shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months or with fine which may extend to one hundred rupees or with both.
Attempt and abetment- Whoever attempts to commit or abets the commission of any offence punishable under this Act shall be liable to the same punishment as it provided for that offence.
