An Act to extend the Indian Medical Degrees Act, 1916, to the whole of the State of Maharashtra, to provide for uniformity in the provisions of that Act in its application to the whole State and for those purposes further to amend that Act.

Whereas it is expedient to extend the Indian Medical Degrees Act, 1916, to, and bring it into force in, the rest of the State of Maharashtra, to provide for uniformity in the provisions of that Act in its application to the whole State, to repeal the amendments made in that Act by the Central Provinces and Berar Indian Medical Degrees (Amendment) Act, 1948, in its application to the Vidarbha region of the State, and to make certain consequential amendments; It is hereby enacted in the Twelfth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-

  1. Short title.- This Act may be called the Indian Medical Degrees (Maharashtra Extension and Provision for Uniformity) Act, 1961.
  2. Extension of Act VII of 1916 as in force in Bombay area of the State of Maharashtra to other areas of the State.- For the purpose of extending the Indian Medical Degrees Act, 1916, to, and bringing it into force in, the rest of the State of Maharashtra, and for providing for uniformity in the provisions of that Act in its application to the whole of the State, on the commencement of this Act, the Indian Medical Degrees Act, 1916 hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act", as in force immediately before such commencement in the Bombay area of the State, shall be extended and be so in force throughout the State; and accordingly, on such commencement -

(a) the words "of such titles and of titles implying qualifications in other systems of medicine" which were inserted in the long title and preamble to the principal Act, by the Central Provinces and Berar Indian Medical Degrees (Amendment) Act, 1948, shall be deleted, and in their place the words "of such titles" shall be restored, and also section 6A inserted in the principal Act by the aforesaid Amendment Act shall be deleted;

(b) to section 2 of the principal Act, in its application to the whole State, the following shall be added at the end, namely:

"and in the case of the State of Maharashtra, includes the Hyderabad area of that State."
