August 22,21017:

Congress has been in opposition in State for around 19 years and is desperately trying to stage a comeback.

Gujarat HC has issued notices to Election Commission and the Congress leader Ahmed Patel on a petition filed by the BJP candidate Balwantsinh Rajput challenging EC’s decision to invalidate votes of the two rebel Congress MLAs in Rajya Sabha polls.

On Monday, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi, along with her deputy Rahul Gandhi, met with the party lawmakers from Gujarat to give them a pep talk.

43 lawmakers had stayed with party unlike others who were lured by BJP and voted against Ahmed Patel in hotly contested Rajya Sabha polls.

BJP Chief Amit Shah was also a candidate in election.

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had asked Gujarat Legislators to work together ahead of Assembly Polls likely to be held by this year-end.

Party Veteran Ashok Gehlot, now All India Congress Committee in charge of State of Gujarat, was present on occasion along with Patel.

Congress Party had suffered a jolt when the leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela had quit the party along with his loyalist lawmakers.

Shankersinh Vaghela had been pressing Congress leadership that he be given charge of State, something which both Sonia and Rahul have refused to buy.
