An Additional District & Sessions Judge of the District Court, Chandigarh, has tested positive for Coronavirus.

Sources in the Court Administration said the Judge, who was living at his official residence in Sector 24, was found positive for COVID-19 yesterday & was admitted to a hospital. The staff members who came in his contact in the past few days have been told to observe self-quarantine.

The High Court of Punjab & Haryana, as well as the subordinate courts in the states of Punjab & Haryana & the UT, have been working in a restrictive manner to prevent the spread of the pandemic since March.

All district & subdivisional Courts in Punjab, Haryana & the Union Territory were only taking up Bail matters & matters requiring urgent stay/injunction. Efforts are made by judicial officers to avoid crowding of the Court. Cases are heard through videoconferencing.

NK Nanda, President, District Bar Association, Chandigarh, said Lawyers were taking every possible step & helping the Court administration to prevent the spread of COVID by following all directions issued in this regard from time to time.
