Atleast 30 people including the 25 kids lost their lives at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur during last 48 hours when firm supplying oxygen to the neonatal units and the encephalitis wards allegedly stopped supply due to the non-payment.
Officials sources, however, are keeping casualty figure at seven since Thursday midnight.
District Magistrate Rajeev Rautela has stated that 30 deaths were reported in past 48 hours but categorically denied that deaths were due to the shortage of the oxygen supply.
KK Gupta , Director General Medical Education has rushed to Gorakhpur and a High- Power Committee has been set up to probe cause and produce report within 24 hours.
As per the local sources, firm which supplied the oxygen cylinders stopped the services after dues amounting to Rs 65 lakh were pending with College Authorities. Despite the several reminders and no progress in the payment, cylinder supply was stopped.
However, Baba Raghav Das Medical College denies any crisis and added that an ample number of the cylinders were available for the patients and that deaths were routine.
