COVID-19: Delhi HC and Subordinate Courts' suspended functioning further extended till Aug 31st; Plan for gradual opening of Physical Courts to start form 1st Sept [Read Notice]

On Tuesday, in view of the prevailing situation of spreading of Coronavirus in the NCT of Delhi, the Delhi High Court has decided to further extend its and its Subordinate Court's suspended Physical Functioning till Aug 31st, 2020.

The Court shall continue taking up cases listed before them through videoconferencing.

It has been directed that the Subordinate Courts, however, can adjourn those matters which can be heard appropriately through regular mode only.

It is also ordered that such courts shall not pass any adverse order in nonurgent/routine matters where the concerned advocate/litigant is unable to join the proceedings through video conferencing, till the time the physical functioning of the courts is resumed.

It has further been directed that subject to complete availability of public transport and subject to the situation in Delhi remaining stable, a plan be evolved for gradual opening of Physical Courts from 1st September, 2020 onwards.

It has been stated that to begin with, on experimental basis, around one-fourth of the courts can resume physical functioning on a rotational basis while the rest can continue taking up matters through videoconferencing.

The District and Sessions Judge (HQs), in consultation with the other District and Sessions Judges shall prepare a comprehensive plan on the above lines and forward the same to this Court by 20.08.2020 for being placed before the “Committee for Preparation of Graded Action Plan” and thereafter before the Full Court for consideration.
