On Monday, a Metropolitan Court issued notice to the Sabarmati police inspector, seeking explanation from a policeman who allegedly took Rs 500 bribe from a former Govt Lawyer when he went to the latter's house after the issuance of an arrest warrant.

The Ex-Govt Lawyer pointed out that the arrest warrant was wrongly issued against him & that he was the original complainant in the vehicle theft case. The Court has cancelled the warrant against him.

The case involved Lawyer K V Upadhyay, who used to work as an assistant public prosecutor with the Metropolitan Court. His 2-wheeler was stolen from the Court campus.

So, he lodged a complaint with Karanj police who identified a person & initiated criminal prosecution against him. During the process, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Upadhyay, who is a complainant in this case.

Upadhyay filed an application in the Court on Monday saying that the warrant was issued against him wrongly & contrary to the legal provision. After he requested that the warrant be cancelled, the court cancelled it & asked Sabarmati police inspector to return the warrant.

He also complained that a PCR van from Sabarmati police station reached his house on Sunday evening, & a policeman asked for Rs 500 to not serve him the warrant.

To avoid any embarrassment in front of neighbours, Upadhyay claimed to have paid him the bribe amount. He sought action against the cop & demanded his money back. After hearing the retired prosecutor, the court issued notice to the Sabarmati PI, directing him to seek an explanation from the policeman concerned & report to the Court.
