July,3,2015: The Mumbai Police has started a drive against its traffic personnel who violate traffic rules, City Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria told the Bombay High Court on Thursday.

Mr. Maria and representatives of various agencies of the State government made a series of presentations on the traffic situation in Mumbai before Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice A.K. Menon at the conference hall of the court. The Bench was hearing a public interest litigation petition seeking strict implementation of traffic rules and regulations.

“One week ago, we have started a drive against our own people for traffic violations, such as not wearing the helmet or not stopping at a signal, which will continue for two months,” Mr. Maria said in his presentation.

The traffic branch however, has not yet started registering cases against its own personnel. The police will introduce a system of electronic receipts as a pilot in a month that will be rolled out across the city in three months.
