US President Donald Trump has appointed a Telugu law practitioner, Saritha Komatireddy, as a Judge in the US District Court in New York.
Saritha Komatireddy's doctor parents both hail from Telangana and are settled in the United States. Hanumanth Reddy, father of Saritha is a cardiologist in Missouri & her Mother Geetha Reddy a rheumatologist. Saritha is a prosecutor & teaches law in the Columbia Law School, New York.
Saritha Komatireddy also served as IP coordinator
A press statement issued by the White House last week said Saritha is presently serving as a Deputy Chief of General Crimes in the US Attorney’s office for the eastern district of New York.
Saritha has also served as Acting Deputy Chief of International Narcotics & Money Laundering between June 2018 & Jan 2019 & as computer hacking & intellectual property coordinator (2016-2019) for the US attorney’s office, New York,” it said.
According to the announcement, Saritha had previously taught at George Washington University Law School. Trump made the announcement on Feb 12.
Meanwhile, the Indian-American community in the US has expressed happiness at the appointment of Saritha to the post. The Telugu community, in particular, congratulated her. “Merit duly recognised,” said Donepudi Nageshwara Rao, an Advocate.
