The High Court of Delhi has ordered a recce of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) night shelters to know if there was any need to continue functioning hunger relief camps, including provision of dry ration to non-PDS beneficiaries & cooked food.

A bench of Justices Hima Kohli & Subramonium Prasad asked Delhi Legal Service Authority (DLSA) to examine an application filed by an NGO seeking to continue with food distribution. It said the authority could also take into account the stand of the Govt & conduct an independent recce before filing a status report.

The Court was hearing an application filed by NGO Rozi Roti Adhikar Abhiyan seeking direction to Delhi Govt to resume the scheme of providing dry ration under the Mukhya Mantri Corona Sahayata Yojna or any other scheme.

Senior Lawyer Sanjay Parikh, representing the NGO, stated there was still a requirement for providing free cooked meals at hunger relief centres, ration to non-PDS beneficiaries & cooked food to those staying at the night shelters.
