March,2,2017:

Pepsi and Coca-Cola are being opposed on ground of ill Health effect, promotion of Local Juices and US NGO PETA opposing Jallikattu.

Madras High Court has dismissed two PILs seeking ban against supply of water to soft drink companies including MNCs Pepsi and Coca-Cola from the River Thamirabarani in Tirunelvelli.

The Bench lifted the stay granted last November by ruling that the water supply will no more be curbed.

The petitioner had accused Pepsi and Coca-Cola of using precious water for commercial gains.

The Tamil Nadu Traders Union had boycotted all soft drinks manufactured outside India.

The decision to boycott aerated drinks was based on three reasons – firstly these drinks have adverse effect on health and secondly, they are consuming precious water in the drought-prone state.

Last traders are opposing American brands in protest of PETA a US animal rights group’s opposition to Jallikattu.

On the other hand Indian Beverage Association (IBA) has opposed the boycott saying that it is “deeply disappointing” and is against the Make in India call of PM.
