The Delhi HC has recently directed the DSLSA to conduct workshops for the Superintendents, Deputy Superintendents, and Assistant Superintendents, Jail, and all the 14 Law Officers who have been appointed by the Prison (Headquarters) with the matter concerning prisoners rights. In the workshops, the provisions of law and relevant case laws would be discussed. Similar workshops will be held in intervals for the D.G(Prisons). The decision was taken in the wake of unlawful detention of prisoners between 20/06/2020 to 25/06/2020
The D.G (prisons) while tendering an apology submitted a status report wherein a committee would be constituted to randomly check the jail records for the matters concerning unlawful detention. Further, a Circular was issued informing all concerned that no person must be detained without any valid and justified reason and that the erring official will be held responsible for such a lapse.
