Cracking the whip, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday took strict measures to ensure the safety of policemen and announced that stringent National Security Act (NSA) will be applied on people who attack cops and other officials enforcing the Covid-19 lockdown.
According to reports, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has issued orders that strict action will be taken under the NSA against people who have been indulging in attacks against police, health-workers who have been on the frontline to limit the spread of the COVID-19.
What is NSA?
Notably, the National Security Act (NSA) is an act that empowers the government to detain a person if the authorities are satisfied that he/she is a threat to national security or to prevent him/her from disrupting public order.
“The police is doing its duty by preventing people to come out during lockdown. There have been incidents in the state in which policemen were attacked by people. To deter such persons, it has been decided to invoke NSA against such persons,” a Senior Home Department official said.
