Importantly these flags have been designed by the chief Minister Banerjee herself.

Mamata Banerjee’s govt. has notified a scheme under which the IAS officers of West Bengal cadre can use various flags on their official vehicles to get around ban on beacons.

No prizes for guessing the base color of such flag is blue, Mamata Banerjee’s favourite.

Senior state officials said that ever since use of beacons was banned by the Union govt, Mamata Banerjee had been thinking of some alternative to the blue lights the state'd been using so that vehicles of bureaucrats could be identified without violating any rules & protocol.

An official of the state personnel & administrative reforms dept. said that “She finally came up with an idea & she herself conceptualized the design.”

The state transport dept.'ll be the nodal body responsible for procurement & distribution of the flags which'll differ depending upon the rank of the IAS officers. There'll be 3 types of flags.

“This process'll be over in couple of days, following which we'll place order with a private vendor & distribute the flags among the officers based on their ranks/posts; by the end of June, all the IAS officers'll have these flags displayed on their vehicles,” Suvendu Adhikary, state transport minister said.

Shapes of these flags'll differ according to seniority of the officers. Flags on vehicles of chief secretary & additional chief secretaries'll be rectangular, while for secretaries or those in equivalent rank'll be swallow-tailed. Officers in the junior administrative grade or selection grade'll get triangular flags.

Transport dept. will maintain a proper database & share it with the police & the National Highway Authority of India.
