The project aims to examine the dynamics of formal and informal constitutionalism in India, with a particular focus on the formation, functioning, and adjudication of constitutional conventions. It argues that the prolix nature of the Constitution of India does not negate the institutionalisation of informal constitutional practices.
Moving beyond traditional common-law frameworks and the Jennings test, the study adopts a post-colonial perspective to analyse how constitutional conventions evolve, operate, and influence governance. It further explores their role in addressing constitutional silences, shaping institutional interactions, and contributing to constitutional culture.
The Research Associate will support the project director in developing and implementing the research outputs of the ICSSR grant Project.
