June 10, 2019:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team has arrested the former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad. Charges were levied against him and his sister Faryal Talpur in the money laundering and fake accounts case and the Islamabad High Court had rejected an extension in Zardari's pre-arrest bail.

A team of doctors will now first conduct a medical check-up of the former president. All the routes leading to and from the location were sealed off by the police. He is being taken to a special room prepared for him at NAB headquarters.

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appealed supporters to remain peaceful after Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected Asif Ali Zardari and Faryal Talpur's pre-arrest bail plea in the money laundering case.

"We will announce action in light of court's detailed decision. Important decisions will also take place in meeting of central executive committee later in the day today," he added.

With the help of fake bank accounts, transactions of hundreds of millions of rupees were carried out to the two leaders' private companies. Even before the verdict was announced, Zardari and his sister left the court. Earlier, PPP members had said that they will stage a protest if Zardari is arrested. They have now called a consultative meeting to discuss what all legal options are available for Zardari and Talpur.

Zardari can now approach the Supreme Court and reqest for suspension of the high court's order.
