November 8,2018:

NewSpin Sports has filed a patent suit against TaylorMade for infringing its business technology meant for analyzing golfer’s swings.

TaylorMade is one of the largest American companies that manufacture golf clubs, bags and other golf related equipments. Also, it has been the first choice of notable people like Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy which is why it comes as a blow that small business owner like NewSpin has taken a battle against golf giant TaylorMade.

NewSpin Sports claims that they had developed the golf swing analysis technology, also known as SmartSwing in 2012 and had also acquired the patent rights for their technology by 2016. With the use of this technology, a golfer is able to attach a sensor to the golf club and collect data on each golf swing. SmartSwing allows the golfer to improve their game with the help of the data collected.

TaylorMade incorporated a similar technology in their product; the product includes a Blast sensor that works on similar lines of NewSpin’s technology.

NewSpin holds patent for its technology that includes “systems and methods implementing a motion sensor unit to capture motion data relating to movement of an object usable in a sport or leisure activity, such as a baseball bat or golf club.”

Prior to filing a lawsuit, NewSpin had tried to resolve the issue outside the court but both the parties weren’t able to reach a conclusion. Presently, TaylorMade has filed for an extension of time to reply to the suit.

Now it will be extremely interesting to see whether TaylorMade the golf club giant will successfully introduce its technology or will be defeated by small business name like NewSpin.
