Union Law Ministry is all set to become the 1st ministry to have its own TV Channel.
The channel will broadcast constitutional interpretations and discussions on the key issues like triple talaq, the uniform civil code, apart from debates on important judgments, in order to spread legal awareness.
The Law ministry has sought a separate channel for the purpose from bouquet of 32 direct to home channels launched by ministry of human resource development (HRD) called Swayam Prabha to broadcast programmes for the school & university students.
The law ministry has already written to HRD ministry seeking the operational rights for 1 channel.
The law ministry is considering hiring leading Bollywood directors like Mr. Prakash Jha to produce quality programmes on legal education for the marginalized.
Mr. Prakash Jha was recently commissioned by the govt. to make 15 five minute short films for National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) aimed at creating legal awareness in the society. CJI JS Khehar is the patron-in-chief of NALSA, which is engaged in providing free legal aid to the poor people.
The ministry has also launched an open competition for freelance film-makers & students of various law schools with a cash prize of ₹20,000-₹50,000 for 5 to 30 minute films on the relevant issues.
A senior officer associated with the project said that the idea is to create a bank of enriched material on legal issues that can be best used by the common people.
The govt. will start the project by 1st broadcasting programmes for a few hours every day & once it gathers enough content, the channel will run 24/7.
