The Society for Non-Human Persons (SNHP), at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore will be hosting the 3rd Edition of the Humane Society International, India Presents NLS Animal Protection PIL Competition from the 19th to 21st of April, 2019.SNHP has, since it’s inception in 2013, strived to improve the welfare of animals and increase awareness of animal rights in society, especially in the legal community. To this extent SNHP organises vaccination drives and provides medical aid to distressed animals. As part of increasing awareness in the legal community, SNHP organises conferences and talks on animal rights.

The NLS Animal Protection PIL Competition is the brainchild of the committee and is the only competition of its kind in the country. It has attracted multitudes of students over the years since it’s inception two years ago. We hope to make this year’s edition the biggest yet.

The National Law School of India is one of the top law schools in the country and as a committee of this esteemed university we will strive to challenge and develop the participant’s knowledge and passion for animal rights.

The Competition will be held over two stages: memorial qualification round and oral rounds. The NLSIU Animal Rights PIL Competition aims to provide students all over India an opportunity to develop knowledge in the field of Animal Welfare Law and Constitutional law while honing their written and oral advocacy skills.

Eligibility

All law schools, faculties of law and other Universities offering a law-related degree program are eligible to participate in the Competition. Each participating University can also send up to 3 teams. Members of the team must be valid Undergraduate students pursuing a recognized Bachelor of Law program.

Team Composition

A team can have a minimum of two members, and a maximum of three. Each team must specify the two team members who would be speaking in a round, prior to commencement of that particular round.

Cross University teams are also allowed in the competition. This means that the members of a team need not be from the same University. However, each member of the team must be valid Undergraduate students pursuing a recognized Bachelor of Law program.

Registration

Teams must register for the Competition by completing the Online Registration Form available before 12:00 am on the 15th of March, 2019. The Registration Fee for the Competition (Rs. 4,500/-) is to be paid through a wire transfer, the details of which are contained in Annexure-1 of the rules.
