Fakir Mohan University has marked 25 years (1999-2024) of academic excellence, establishing itself as a trusted institution for quality professional education, attracting students from across the country and beyond. In alignment with UGC and BCI guidelines, the University introduced LL.M. and B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programs in 2002 and 2017, respectively.
The rapid advancement of digital technology and the widespread use of the internet have significantly transformed modern society, but they have also led to a rise in cyber offences such as online fraud, identity theft, hacking, data breaches, and cyber harassment. These offences often transcend geographical boundaries and create complex legal challenges for traditional criminal justice systems.
The determination of criminal liability in cyberspace involves issues of attribution, jurisdiction, digital evidence, and the accountability of individuals, intermediaries, and organizations operating in the online environment. In India, the legal framework for addressing such offences is primarily provided under the Information Technology Act, 2000 along with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, while enforcement efforts are strengthened through institutional mechanisms such as the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.
In this context, the seminar seeks to examine the emerging dimensions of criminal liability in cyberspace and critically analyze the effectiveness of existing enforcement mechanisms, while also exploring the need for stronger legal frameworks, institutional capacity building, and international cooperation to effectively combat cybercrime in the digital age.
