June 3, 2019:

Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for expanding the ambit of PM’s Kisan scheme to include all eligible land holding farmers.

In a letter to Modi, the chief minister thanked him for announcing the pension scheme for small and marginal farmers, as well as the decision of the Centre to bear the entire cost of the control of foot and mouth disease and brucellosis in support of livestock rearing farmers.

“I also thank you for providing pension coverage to shopkeepers, retail traders and self-employed persons, which is certainly a path breaking initiative. The above schemes will provide strong social security to large sections of our society,” Palaniswami said. The decisions, the chief minister said, would be of immense benefit to farmers, traders, self-employed persons and others. “I assure you that the government of Tamil Nadu will extend all support to these efforts, by ensuring impeccable implementation of these schemes,” he said.
