The Supreme Court has put a stay on the order of the Gauhati High Court, which had halted the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The bench, comprising Justices Aniruddha Bose and S. V. Bhatti, issued notices to the Union Sports Ministry, Wrestling Federation of India, Assam Wrestling Association, and others in response to a plea challenging the high court's June 25 order.

During the hearing, the counsel representing the petitioner, Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association, informed the bench that a third party had approached the high court on Sunday and obtained a stay on the matter. This development has caused a delay in the WFI elections.

Consequently, the Supreme Court bench issued notices and stayed the high court's order. The Gauhati High Court had scheduled the next hearing of the petition filed by the Assam Wrestling Association for July 28.

The WFI elections, originally planned for July 11, were put on hold by the Gauhati High Court following a plea by the Assam Wrestling Association (AWA), seeking the right to participate in the election process. The AWA claimed that it should be recognized as an affiliated member of the WFI with voting rights, despite being denied recognition by the national federation. The Gauhati High Court granted the stay on June 25, which was the deadline for submitting names for the electoral college.

With the Supreme Court staying the high court's order, the fate of the WFI elections will now be determined based on the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings.
