Ever since the Lockdown has been observed due to global pandemic, Bar Councils all over the country has been collecting funds to aid Lawyers in need since their earnings are dowm due to economic shutdown.

Lawyers are applying in large number for the same which is surpassing the accumulation of funds for the case cause.

Recently, the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has intimated that it an estimated amount of ₹5 crores is available presently with the Bar Council's Advocates Welfare Fund for aiding Lawyers in time of need.

Of the 17,000 applications the association received for the same, 12, 0000 Lawyers has been found eligible as per conditions stipulated by the State Bar Council.

The Press Release read:

"Considering the large number of eligible claims and with limited resources, the Bar Council has unanimously resolved to disburse a sum of Rs 4,000/- to the eligible advocates by way of checque."

Distribution of cheques will take place via the members of the Bar Council and the President/Secretaties of the respective Bar/Advocates Associations. 

Advocates who are not members of any Association may also collect the cheque from the nearest association in their respective areas.

The Press Release further read:

"The Bar/Advocates Associations are also requested to contribute liberally not less than 25% of the fund available in the respective asociatios to meet out this extraordinary situation. "

The Bar Council informed that the Bar Council has resolved to request the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court to resume regular sessions of the Court from June onwards, taking into consideration of all relevant aspects.

It further clarified that in Chennai, Lawyers may collected the cheques from the Tamil Nadu Bar Council Counters.
