Apex Court expounds,"Brutal, barbaric, and demonaical conduct of convicts shook conscience of the humanity and they don't deserve leniency".

On Friday, Supreme Court has upheld the death penalty for four convicts for 2012 Gang Rape and murder of Nirbhaya.Apex Court has expounded that,"The Nirbhaya rape-cum-murder case is rarest of the rare case and we are compelled to give extreme punishment to ensure justice".

As soon as the read out its order, packed court began to applaud.

Supreme Court was hearing the appeal filed by four convicts Akshay, Pawan, Vinay Sharma and Mukesh who had challenged Delhi High Court's March 2014 confirmation of death sentence handed to them by the trial court in 2013.

However, convicts' lawyer, AP Singh, had a dissenting view wherein he submitted before the Apex Court that,"You can't hang someone just to send a message to society. Human rights have been slaughtered today".

On December 16, 2012, Nirbhaya, 23-year-old paramedic, was raped and brutalised with an iron rod on a moving bus in Delhi. She and her male friend were then thrown out of bus. Nirbhaya lost her battle for life in a Singapore hospital on December 29,2012.

"The investigations done by the Delhi Police was fair and impartial and probe has passed the test of fairness and reliability," apex Court added.

Surpreme Court further added that,"Dying declaration of Nirbhaya is reliable as it was corroborated by the medical and the other evidences".

Of the six accused, Ram Singh hanged himself in the prison, while the another, who was a juvenile at the time of the crime, was convicted in August,2016 and will serve the maximum sentence of three years in reform home.

Appeal was heard by Apex Court Bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra and comprising of Justice R Banumathi and Justice Ashok Bhushan.
