Decision to deport illegal Rohingya Muslim immigrants back to Myanmar it violated international human right conventions.
On Monday, Supreme Court has sought to know stand of Govt. on a petition challenging its decision to deport the illegal Rohingya Muslim immigrants back to Myanmar.
SC Bench comprising of CJI Dipak Misra and Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice D Y Chandrachud asked the ASG Tushar Mehta to take the instructions from Centre for its response to petition which has challenged decision on various grounds including that it violated the international human right conventions.
Apex Court has posted the matter for September 11,2017, Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for two Rohingya immigrants, wanted an assurance that during pendency of petition, Centre will not take any step including deportation of immigrants.
ASG submitted that he was not making any statement.
Violent attacks allegedly by the Myanmarese Armymen have led to an exodus of the Rohingya tribals from Western Rakhine State in that country to India and Bangladesh.
Those had fled to India after earlier spate of violence, have now settled in State of J&K, Hyderabad, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan.
The Petition has been filed by two Rohingya Immigrants, Mohammad Salimullah and Mohammad Shaqir, who are registered as the refugees under United Nations High Commission of Refugees (UNHCR), claimed they had taken refuge in India after escaping from Myanmar due to widespread discrimination, the violence and the bloodshed against community there.
