On Monday, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 25th August, 2025 has recommended appointment of Mr. Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Judge, High Court of Bombay (PHC: High Court of Jharkhand), as Chief Justice of High Court of Bombay,” the Collegium stated in its resolution.
Justice Chandrashekhar brings over three decades of experience at the Bar and on the Bench. After enrolling with the Delhi State Bar Council in December 1993, he built a robust practice in both civil and criminal law. Over 19 years of advocacy, he argued nearly 3,500 matters before the Supreme Court and contributed to around 140 reported judgments. He represented several public bodies, including the All India Council for Technical Education, the State of Jharkhand, the Bihar State Housing Board, the Jharkhand State Electricity Board, and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, apart from private corporations.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court in January 2013 and became a permanent judge in June 2014. Justice Chandrashekhar later assumed charge as Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court in December 2023. Following his transfer to the Rajasthan High Court and subsequently to the Bombay High Court in July 2025, the Collegium has now recommended him for the position of Chief Justice.
