Punjab Advocate General Maninderjit Singh Bedi has received death threats following the state’s crackdown on content glorifying gangster culture, including the blocking of the trailer of `Lawrence of Punjab', a web series allegedly inspired by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Bishnoi is currently lodged in high-security Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad in connection with multiple cases of murder, extortion, and drug trafficking.
Police authorities have informed that Bedi has received two such threat messages — one earlier and another recently — raising concerns over his security amid the ongoing crackdown.
Earlier, the Centre had told ZEE5 to take down or block access to the trailer of “Lawrence of Punjab,” citing concerns over content that allegedly glorifies gangster culture and could have a negative social impact.
The directive was part of a broader push to curb online material linked to figures like Bishnoi, with authorities flagging the potential of such content to influence youth and embolden organised crime networks.
