The President of India has nominated Justice U.U. Lalit, sitting Judge of Supreme Court of India as Executive Chairman of National Legal Service Authority (NALSA).

The Notification stated that,

“In exercise of the powers conferred under Clause (b) of sub-section (2) of Section 3 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, the President is pleased to nominate Hon’ble Shri Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Judge, Supreme Court of India, as Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority, with immediate effect.”

Justice U.U. Lalit was appointed as a Supreme Court Judge on August 13, 2014, and he will retire on November 8, 2022.

About NALSA

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has been constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free Legal Services to the weaker sections of the society and to organize Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes.
