March 20, 2019:

Justice Satya Brata Sinha, passed away at the age of 75 on Tuesday in Delhi.

Born in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, former Supreme Court judge will be remembered for his contribution through several landmark Judgments.

Late Justice Sinha served at the apex court from October 3, 2002 to August 8, 2009 and post retirement, was appointed as the chairman of Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT)  succeeding Justice Arun Kumar who retired in September, 2009.

Born on August 8, 1944, he received his Bachelor of Laws degree from Chhotanagpur Law College, Ranchi in 1967.

Later, he was appointed as the first government advocate of Ranchi Bench of Patna High Court and was then promoted to the bench of Patna High Court on March 9, 1987.

Justice Sinha was transferred to Calcutta High Court on May 11, 1994 and since had served as the Chief Justice of Calcutta, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi High Court.

His son Mr. Indrajit Sinha is practising at Jharkhand High Court at present. His son Abhiteet Sinha is an Arbitration Lawyer. His brother in law, R.S. Mazumdar has been an Advocate-General of Jharkhand, who is a reputed lawyer.

A Workoholic, throughout his tenure he remained a dedicated and highly respected Judge of the Court.
