Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed strong disapproval towards Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal, criticizing him for allegedly describing the Kolkata rape-murder case as a "symptomatic malaise" in a resolution purportedly issued on behalf of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). Dhankhar, without directly naming Sibal, condemned the suggestion that such heinous acts of violence against women are commonplace, calling it a "great injustice" to the high position held.

Kapil Sibal, elected SCBA president in May, faced backlash for his stance, with Dhankhar labelling it as motivated by "self-interest." Former SCBA president Adish C. Aggarwala also condemned Sibal, accusing him of undermining the seriousness of the incident and acting without the consent of the SCBA's Executive Committee. Aggarwala emphasized that the resolution appeared to reflect Sibal's personal view rather than the collective opinion of the SCBA, warning that such actions could compromise the integrity of the association and potentially influence the ongoing investigations by the Supreme Court and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
