The Jharkhand High Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the suspicious accidental death of Additional District Judge (ADJ) of Dhanbad district, Uttam Anand, who was hit by a four-wheeled vehicle in daylight on Wednesday.

The Bench headed by Chief Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan has issued the order directing the SSP, Dhanbad to remain present before the Court today

As seen in a surfaced CCTV footage, Judge Anand was out on a morning walk when a vehicle 'deliberately hit' him near the Magistrate Colony in Dhanbad.

The CCTV footage of the incident shows the appearance of an unidentified man on a four-wheeler just before and after the incident. He is believed to be one of the conspirators to a suggested foul-play.

The shocking incident was brought to the attention of the Supreme Court today morning by Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh, who demanded a CBI investigation. The Chief Justice of India informed Vikas Singh that the Jharkhand High Court has taken up the case.

The police say the CCTV footage makes it clear the auto hit him deliberately. Investigations have revealed the vehicle was stolen.

Judge Anand had been handling many cases of mafia killings in Dhanbad town and had recently rejected the bail requests of two gangsters. The murder case of Ranjay Singh, a close aide of MLA Sanjeev Singh, was also pending before his court.
